Holter monitoring is a continuous, 24 hour electrocardiographic (EKG) recording of the rhythm of the heart. Electrodes are placed on the chest area and the leads are attached to a small recorder. The patient will keep a 24 - hour dairy record of daily activities and any symptoms (like chest pain, dizziness, heart racing etc...) experienced. It takes about 15 minutes to have the monitor put on. The patient will return to the clinic the next day to have the recorder removed. To have Holter Monitoring preformed at our facility, a Beaver Family Clinic health care provider must order the test.
Holter monitoring is helpful in evaluating:
- Angina
- Type and amount of irregular heartbeats (rapid or slow)
